    Visited the Pastoral in August 2014. A group of 15 dining in the bistro, we were told on arrival that we were late, & to hurry up and order as the kitchen was about to close at 8pm... after being told on the phone it closed at 830. The service from the surly attendant was rude & abrupt. Probably the rudest waitress I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. One member of our party asking about the serving size of the burger had "it's normal burger size!" barked at him. We should have walked out. The rest of the service in the bistro was average, our meals were hurriedly brought out & slapped on the tables by staff who clearly did not want to be there. The food was average, dirty mens toilets with a smashed toilet bowl. In this day & age, abhorrent service & average food is unforgivable. At least the service in the front bar was good. It's a case of "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me". I'll never set foot in the pastoral again. Ian's Western Hotel is far superior on all fronts.
